Hello there! Welcome to Dog Star Rodentry.
We are a small rodentry located in Sydney's Northern Beaches, and although my sister and I have been breeding mice since I was 11 or 12, the true Dog Star Rodentry started in 2000 when I acquired my first rats to breed as snake food.
Along the way, I discovered the wonderful personalities of these animals and the vast array of colours that were available. I searched on the Internet and found that there were also different coat types, though I had never seen any of these and thought that they mustn't be available in Australia. I also fell in love with the genetics involved in breeding for colour, so much so that when we started the genetics topic in Year 12 Biology, I knew more about some areas of the module than the teacher did.
By the end of 1999, my sister had lost interest in the mice, and I had taken over all breeding operations... And so Dog Star Rodentry started.
At the moment we have decided to concentrate on the ticked varieties of mice, with particular interest in chinchilla. With the ratties we will be trying our hardest to improve the conformation, temperament and health of the rather rare blazed varieties, concentrating mostly on blazed berkshire.
We do maintain waiting lists, and we will ship interstate (at the buyers expense), but only in same sex pairs.
Important Note: Due to the recent sudden death of our beloved blue boy, Eragon, and the previous issues that the blues have had with "bleed outs", Dog Star Rodentry will no not be breeding blue or blue carrier rats of any kind.
